- Bring Senior credit risk or lending experience from a bank or finance company
A senior credit risk leadership role with material influence across lending strategy and portfolio quality.
Heartland Bank is a NZ registered bank and the primary operating subsidiary of Heartland Group Holdings; an NZX and ASX listed financial services group providing award winning savings and specialist lending products to customers across New Zealand and Australia. Heartland’s strategy is to digitalise everything it does, enabling faster decision making, scalable growth and better outcomes for customers.
Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, the Deputy Chief Risk Officer - Credit Risk leads Heartland’s independent Second Line of Defence credit risk function. The role provides robust oversight, advice and challenge across the bank’s lending portfolios while supporting the delivery of business strategy and regulatory outcomes.
The position has accountability for setting and maintaining the Credit Risk Strategy across Heartland’s core portfolios including Reverse Mortgages, Motor Finance, Asset Finance and Rural and Livestock lending. It provides assurance that credit risk management practices are effective, exposures remain within risk appetite and policy, and controls are operating as intended.
The role works closely with frontline leaders to ensure credit risk settings remain appropriate through the economic cycle and aligned with strategic objectives. It plays a key role in credit governance, advising on matters requiring Senior Executive or Board Risk Committee approval including new products, large exposures, strategic initiatives and policy variations. The role also identifies emerging credit risks, oversees remediation activity and leads investigations where required.
As a senior people leader, the role is responsible for the leadership, development and performance of Heartland’s credit risk teams.
Heartland is a specialised bank with a lean structure, which means this role carries genuine influence and visibility. The bank is seeking a versatile and commercially astute credit risk leader who is equally comfortable assessing complex individual credit exposures, shaping policy and strategy, leading high performing teams and engaging credibly at Executive and Board level.
Based in Auckland, you will bring substantial experience in senior credit risk management and or senior lending or portfolio management roles gained within a New Zealand or Australian bank or finance company. Experience across Motor Finance and retail and or commercial banking is required, with exposure to rural, commercial or property lending highly regarded.
Heartland is a fast paced and high accountability environment. Success in this role will require sound judgement, adaptability, resilience and the confidence to operate independently while partnering constructively with the business.
