Te whiwhinga mahi – The opportunity
The Sport Integrity Commission is Aotearoa New Zealand’s new independent Crown entity established to ensure experience are safer and fairer across the sport and recreation system. The Commission commenced operations on 1 July 2024, bringing together anti-doping, dispute resolution, safeguarding, investigations, learning and capability building into a unified national organisation.
This new Director – Capability role is part of the Commission’s Senior Leadership Team and plays a vital role leading system uplift across learning, capability, insights, and safeguarding. This includes oversight of sector organisations adopting the new Integrity Code.
One of the immediate priorities for this role will be to lead the implementation of a new learning strategy and supporting delivery model – building the foundations for integrity capability in Aotearoa that is accessible, impactful, and grounded in evidence, adult learning principles and inclusion.
This is a rare opportunity to shape national change and partner with organisations at all levels to create safer, fairer, and more inclusive experiences for participants, communities and whānau.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi – About this role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and working alongside the Directors of Operations and Enablement and the General Counsel, the Director – Capability will lead the Commission’s strategy and delivery of:
- a national learning strategy and fit-for-purpose delivery model
- Integrity Code awareness, adoption, and implementation
- Safeguarding frameworks and policy development across the sector
- Sector engagement and relationship development, grounded in trust and collaboration
- Strategic use of insights to inform capability uplift, threat prevention, and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced senior leader who brings:
- Executive leadership in learning, capability, or system development.
- Experience working in or with public, integrity, or sport and recreation sectors.
- Strong cultural competence and a deep commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Strategic thinking and delivery with the ability to drive system. change, influence decision-makers and lead through complexity
- A values-led leadership style grounded in collaboration, inclusion and partnership.
