Lead People and Culture at the Reserve Bank, shaping trusted leadership and capability across a complex, nationally significant organisation.

Te tūranga - The role and your impact

Following a period of significant change, this role will shape the next phase of People and Culture, embedding confidence, clarity and trusted partnership across the organisation.

Reporting to the Assistant Governor Operations, the Director People and Culture is responsible for leading RBNZ’s people strategy and strengthening organisational capability across a complex, nationally significant institution.

You will lead an experienced team across Business Partnering, Talent Acquisition, Leadership and Learning, and people operations, ensuring:

  • Trusted, pragmatic advice to senior leaders
  • Strong governance, employment practice and public accountability

This is a highly collaborative leadership role requiring judgement, credibility and influence. You will operate confidently in complex discussions and enable safe, well-informed decisions.

Ō pūkenga - About you

You are an experienced senior People and Culture leader who brings both strategic depth, executive presence and operational credibility.

You have successfully led through complexity and change, earning trust across executive and specialist communities. You are comfortable operating in the “grey” — guiding leaders through nuanced people matters with sound judgement rather than rigid rule application.

You bring:

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience across the full People and Culture portfolio.
  • A collaborative, warm and authentic leadership style that draws people in.
  • Strong employment law and public accountability awareness.
  • The ability to build credibility quickly and contribute confidently at senior leadership level.
  • Experience working in complex, regulated or public sector environments.

You will be energised by the opportunity to lead a capable team of approximately 20, supported by experienced direct reports, and to shape a prioritised, strategic programme of work for the next phase of the RBNZ journey.
