About us
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is the government agency responsible for helping New Zealand companies grow internationally, for the good of New Zealand. NZTE partners with many of New Zealand’s most innovative exporters to help take their products, services and ideas to global markets.

At the centre of NZTE’s impact is a strong strategy, world‑class people capability, and trusted partnerships across government and industry. The Strategy, People and Partners group plays a critical role in enabling NZTE to deliver on its purpose.

About the role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the General Manager Strategy, People and Partners is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping NZTE’s future direction and ensuring the organisation is positioned to deliver sustained impact.

This role brings together strategy development, organisational performance, people capability, and relationships across NZ Inc agencies, Ministers and the NZTE Board. It ensures NZTE operates as an integrated, high‑performing organisation, with the right people, systems and partnerships in place to support exporters.

Leading a broad portfolio of functions, including strategy, people, finance, business assurance, legal, communications and governance, the role is accountable for ensuring these critical enablers operate as a cohesive, high‑impact system supporting NZTE’s overall performance.

As a key member of NZTE’s Executive Lead Team, you will influence enterprise‑wide direction, champion organisational alignment, and lead cross‑agency collaboration to maximise New Zealand’s global opportunities.

What success looks like
Success in this role means NZTE operates with clarity of purpose, strong strategic alignment and confidence from Ministers, the Board and stakeholders.

You will enable excellent strategy design and delivery, ensuring NZTE remains future‑focused, responsive and well‑positioned to meet both current and emerging challenges. Internally, you will ensure NZTE is recognised as a high‑performing, sought after place to work, supported by strong systems, services and leadership.

You will foster a cohesive, aligned organisation where enabling functions work seamlessly together, empowering teams to deliver meaningful outcomes for exporters and for New Zealand.

What you’ll bring
As an experienced leader, you will bring:
  • A proven ability to shape and deliver forward-looking strategy in complex environments
  • Strong enterprise leadership, with the ability to lead through others across a broad mandate
  • Credibility and influence with senior external stakeholders, including government and external partners
  • Expertise in organisational performance, people strategy and corporate services leadership
  • You will be a simplifier with exceptional prioritisation and decision-making capability in high-complexity settings
  • A strong commitment to customer‑centred thinking and service excellence
  • The ability to inspire, coach and develop high‑performing teams and leaders
