This is an exciting opportunity for an intermediate-level lawyer who is interested in making a significant contribution to New Zealand's agricultural sector and biosecurity efforts.
A key aspect of this newly created and challenging role is to provide legal advice on contracts, disease management legislation, Official Information Act requests, and privacy matters, grounded in quality research and technical knowledge. However, what makes this role unique is that you will also be expected to work closely with the General Counsel to help develop and embed the organisation’s Legal Function. You will be given the autonomy to make demonstrable change and the opportunity to review and streamline key internal systems and processes.
To be successful in this role you should possess:
- At least three years legal experience with a demonstrated understanding of contract law, law reform, regulatory compliance, and the legal landscape which applies to access to information in New Zealand. Experience applying disease management legislation such as the Biosecurity Act is a bonus.
- The ability to foster and grow strong relationships across the organisation.
- An open and collaborative approach and a positive mindset.
- Initiative as well as a strategic and big picture approach
- Strong strategic, analytical, problem-solving, and critical reasoning skills.
- A pragmatic and commercial attitude.
- An interest in the agricultural sector.
