We’re currently recruiting for a range of Senior and Principal Policy Advisor roles across government, with fixed-term contracts available through to mid-2027.
These are varied opportunities for experienced policy professionals who enjoy working through complex issues, providing sound advice and building strong relationships across government.
The opportunities
We’re looking for policy professionals who can quickly get across new subject matter, exercise good judgement and confidently contribute in complex environments.
You might be someone with significant legislative policy experience, or a broader policy background. Legislative experience is helpful but not essential. We’re interested in hearing from strong practitioners who can operate effectively at either Senior or Principal level.
Across the opportunities, you may be involved in:
- Developing clear, high-quality policy advice on complex issues
- Contributing to or leading policy development and implementation
- Working with Ministers, senior leaders and a range of stakeholders
- Managing projects and delivering advice to tight timeframes
- Providing advice on emerging issues and government priorities
What will set you up for success?
We’re keen to hear from people with:
- Strong policy analysis, writing and critical thinking skills
- Experience working in a New Zealand government policy environment
- The ability to get up to speed quickly and make sense of complex information
- Strong communication, relationship management and influencing skills
- Confidence working autonomously and taking ownership
- The flexibility to adapt to different environments and priorities
- Legislative or regulatory experience is an advantage, but not a requirement
