TIPS FOR TRANSITIONING

Understand Your Values & Personal Brand

In order to truly define your purpose and your career pathway, it is important to first take a look at your values and personal brand, and discover what drives you. These exercises help you to do just that.

Understand your Values

When creating your career vision, arguably the most important aspect is understanding your values and how they align to what role you would like to be playing in your career. From what you find rewarding in a role (such as working as a team, supporting a good cause, or becoming an expert in your field), to your day-to-day drivers (like location, flexibility, or team culture), to your overall personal goals and values in life.

We have broken these down below into three categories - intrinsic, extrinsic and lifestyle values. It is important to know how important or unimportant these are to you prior to defining your vision.

Understand your Personal Brand

Perhaps a scary statistic, 75% of your job opportunities come through your own networks, whether that be through professional, social, school community, sports community or your broader role within the community. Any of your connections may personally know your future employer, or they could even be your future employer themselves!

With that being the case, how would you like your brand to be represented to a potential future employer?

Our Personal Brand Exercise helps you to understand how you see yourself, how you think others see you and how you would like to be seen. From there it is simply a case of identifying people through your ‘broader’ network who you know would advocate you to their networks and start to ask the question “could they help me to build out my professional network?".
